NYC Event Celebrates
Centennial Edition of
Book of Poems by
William Carlos Williams,
Al Que Quiere!
A reading to pay tribute to the groundbreaking book by William Carlos Williams, Al que quiere! will be held December 7, 2017, at 7 p.m. in Instituto Cervantes—Galeria, at 211-215 East 49th Street, in New York City.
Al Que Quiere! (To Him Who Wants It) was Williams's third collection of poems. The reading will highlight the publication by New Directions press of the "Centennial Edition" of the book, edited by Jonathan Cohen, widely known translator.
Williams, who wrote in the early 20th century and is considered one of the great American poets, had close ties to the Hispanic experience and the Spanish language through his Puerto Rican mother as well as his Spanish-speaking father, who was British. Commenting at the event will be two poet-critics, Julio Marzán, who has been featured in Somos en escrito for his biography on Williams, The Spanish American Roots of William Carlos Williams, and Mónica de la Torre, author of The Happy End/All Welcome. The premier feature published in this magazine and written by the editor, Armando Rendón, was an essay about the link between Williams and Latino writing today.
